Is Your Car Leaking Water?

Car Leaking Water

Is your car leaking water? It can be alarming to see a puddle under your vehicle, but that does not necessarily mean your vehicle is leaking. Our service center wants to help all of our Rochester Hills customers to keep their cars running in top shape. So, we’ve put together the guide below to help you understand why your car is leaking fluid. Let’s take a look at what you can do if you think that water is leaking from under a car.

Is There Really Water Leaking from Under the Car?

A lot of Troy drivers who have been concerned about their car leaking water have been relieved to find out it’s not a leak at all–it can actually be condensation. Water will form on the outside of various parts of your car and drip onto the ground, causing the appearance that water is leaking from under the car. Your air conditioning will do this in the Summer after you’ve run it for a little while. On the other hand, water will drip out of the exhaust during our rough Rochester winters. Of course, a qualified technician can help you to determine if your car is actually leaking.

How to Identify the Fluid Leaking From Under Your Car

Take a closer look at that puddle under your car. Is it clear or colored? If it isn’t clear, then you should be concerned, not about your car leaking water, but some other fluid. Schedule service so that our technicians can diagnose what fluid is leaking and where the leak is. Here’s a guide to what different colors indicate:

What Color is the Fluid?

  • Red – Transmission Fluid or Power Steering Fluid
  • Orange – Transmission Fluid or Radiator Coolant
  • Yellow – Radiator Coolant
  • Green – Antifreeze from Water Pump, Hoses, or Radiator
  • Blue – Windshield Wiper Fluid
  • Dark Brown – Brake Fluid or Older Engine Oil
  • Light Brown – Newer Engine Oil or Gear Lubricant
  • Pink – Power Steering Fluid or Transmission Fluid
